Felicity Jones Reflects on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Felicity Jones was just coming off of what would become her Oscar-nominated turn as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything when she stepped into the Star Wars galaxy as the lead in the franchise’s first standalone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2015.

“I couldn’t believe what an amazing part it was,” Jones tells StarWars.com now, as the film marks the five-year anniversary of its release in December of 2016. “Most of the female roles in franchises at that time were supporting roles.” But Jyn Erso was different: scrappy, tough, resilient, and undoubtedly center stage as the leader of an impressive team of rogues and rebels. “I just felt instinctively that I understood Jyn and knew how I wanted to play her.”

Jones had long been

Celebrating Lynne Hale, Lucasfilm Legend

There are many Lucasfilm heroes, but not all of them wield lightsabers.

Lynne Hale started at Lucasfilm over 35 years ago, the only publicity employee in the entire company at the time. Working directly with George Lucas, her first projects were Willow, Tucker, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Years later, when Star Wars entered new eras of activity and Lucasfilm began to grow, Lynne led teams and would oversee campaigns for the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition, the Star Wars prequels, Red Tails, and the Star Wars sequel trilogy and standalone films. It’s quite a résumé, and one Lynne can be proud of as she enters retirement.

But what a résumé can’t convey is someone’s heart, enthusiasm, and sense of kindness. Anyone who knows Lynne will tell you

Star Wars: Best of 2021

This year, Lucasfilm marked its 50th with a year-long celebration of the company’s galaxy-spanning stories created over five decades. But like Luke Skywalker, our eyes are also on the horizon and the things yet to come. Star Wars: The High Republic ushered in a new multimedia initiative set in a previously unexplored era on the galactic timeline, Star Wars: The Bad Batch focused all-new animated adventures in the immediate aftermath of Order 66, and soon The Book of Boba Fett will reignite our love for the fan-favorite character. We can’t wait to see what next year has in store.

Before we say goodbye to 2021, here are our favorite Star Wars announcements, releases, and moments from this year!

From Kenner to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Most Star Wars fans have dreamed of flying an X-wing. When Brian Volk-Weiss was five years old, however, he was a little more serious about it.

“I was young enough when I saw Star Wars that I really didn’t understand what a movie is,” he tells StarWars.com. “And I didn’t know the word ‘documentary,’ but if you looked at how I was acting after I saw the movie, you would think I thought it was a documentary. Whenever somebody would say to me, ‘Hey, Brian, what do you want to be when you grow up?’ I would say, ‘Well, you know, I’d like to be an X-wing pilot in the Rebellion, and I love T-65s…’” Yet while this response was cute, his family began to feel a disturbance in the
