“It’s a Big Galaxy”: Kieron Gillen and Alyssa Wong Discuss Doctor Aphra and More for Pride Month

If you’re a fan of Marvel’s Star Wars comics, the names Kieron Gillen and Alyssa Wong should be familiar ones; they’re the comic book writers who, respectively, co-created Doctor Aphra and are currently writing the rogue archaeologist’s ongoing series. After her debut in Star Wars: Darth Vader #3 in 2015, Aphra has quickly risen to prominence as one of the most recognizable characters in Star Wars who doesn’t hail from the films or television shows, drawing fans from all walks of life. She has become particularly notable for 1) somehow surviving multiple encounters with Darth Vader when others might not have and 2) being one of the first and certainly most well-known queer characters in the Star Wars galaxy.

In honor of Pride Month, I spoke with Gillen and Wong

Beat the Tatooine Heat with Some Black Melon Milk

The Tusken Raiders know every grain of sand on Tatooine. Their heart and spirits are ingrained in their culture and their planet. They use the sand to their advantage by digging for black melon as sustenance and creating their own custom built gaderffii sticks as weapons.

Stay out of the heat of the desert planet by making your own versions of the Sand People’s prized possessions, inspired by those seen in The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+. Black sesame provides a creamy, flavorful alternative to black melon milk, and these gaffi sticks are much easier to acquire.

How a Star Wars Fan Created a New Droid for Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi

This is the new droid you’re looking for. KP-1 — an astromech consisting of three distinct, modular sections that form a cone shape — made his debut in Obi-Wan Kenobi Part V. Only he wasn’t created by the Lucasfilm Art Department. He doesn’t come from the comics or another form of media. And he’s not an unused build from a past Star Wars production. No, KP-1 comes to the galaxy far, far away thanks to another source: Star Wars fan Camille Manet.

The 25-year-old, hailing from Paris, France, entered and won the Build My Droid contest from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Force For Change initiative and FIRST, whose goal is to inspire the next generation of heroes and innovators in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and creative arts. Her entry was

Star Wars Inside Intel: The Inquisitorius

Star Wars Inside Intel is a StarWars.com feature where Lucasfilm’s Emily Shkoukani, whose job is to know as much about a galaxy far, far away as possible, explores obscure facts about Star Wars lore and continuity. In this installment, Emily explores the evil Inquisitorius…

First mentioned in The Star Wars Sourcebook back in 1987, the Inquisitorius and the general concept of a group of dark side agents working for the Empire is nearly as old as the saga itself. After the storytelling reset in 2014, this group was reintroduced into current fiction in the series premiere of Star Wars Rebels, “Spark of Rebellion.” But the specifics regarding this group and how it operates have evolved since its inception, originally starting as a secret division of Imperial Intelligence, compared to the current Inquisitorius, who

Jump to Lightspeed with Road Squadron

“Punch it!”

What would Star Wars be without the vehicles that transport our heroes and villains across the stars? From iconic ships like the Millennium Falcon to fan favorites like the Ghost, Star Wars is full of memorable vehicles, many becoming beloved characters unto themselves.

And the same is true for vehicles from a galaxy much closer than far, far away and much more present than a long time ago. That’s where Road Squadron comes in, a fan “carfighter” group where vehicle enthusiasts modify their Earth-bound vehicles to represent some of our favorite ships and characters from Star Wars. At Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, Road Squadron showcased their cars for all to see, and took time to speak with StarWars.com.

Road Squadron’s Shawn Crosby ready to make the jump.

This is a jam that Chelli Aphra may literally not get out of.

In the last issue of Marvel’s Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Aphra and Sana Starros finally found the Spark Eternal. But upon touching the ancient artifact, Aphra was killed, resurrected, and taken over by the entity within. In StarWars.com’s first look at Doctor Aphra #21, the rogue archaeologist awakens, only to find that she’s powerless in her own body.

Meanwhile, in Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca #3, continuing a tale set prior to the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, Han and Greedo’s uneasy alliance continues. Along with a team of scum and villainy, the duo is trapped, with the enemy closing in…

5 Things We Love About the LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation Trailer

Our favorite galactic heroes are going on vacation. After all, saving the galaxy from a cloned Emperor Palpatine probably warrants at least a couple of days off.

Following a teaser at LEGO CON 2022, Lucasfilm released today the full trailer for LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation, the latest animated special built — that’s a LEGO pun — for Disney+. As the title implies, the story finds Finn arranging a surprise trip for his friends aboard the luxurious Halcyon starcruiser for some much-needed R&R. Here are five things we loved from the trailer, and we can’t wait for more when LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation arrives on August 5.

1. The Easter eggs.

It wouldn’t be LEGO Star Wars without some blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nods to fans. We spy Artoo and Threepio
